The Differences Between Assembled and RTA Cabinets

Choosing the right cabinetry for your remodeling project can be tricky. However, knowing your options and the differences between them can help you make a choice more easily. Here are the differences between assembled and Ready-To-Assemble cabinets.
Assembled Cabinets
Assembled cabinets are pre-made cabinets that manufacturers have assembled prior to selling and shipping to the consumer. In other words, the whole cabinet is already made, put together, and ready to go. All the different parts and pieces are included, so customers don’t have to worry about putting everything together themselves or paying a handyperson to do it. Assembled cabinetry also allows for more personalization and custom features such as lazy susans and trash can pull-outs.
RTA Cabinets
Ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets are cabinets manufacturers have built but not assembled. This means professionals produce these cabinets, then ship all the pieces in separate flat-packed boxes to consumers. It is then up to the customer to put all the pieces together and install the cabinet. Although, many consumers use contractors to assemble and install the cabinetry. RTA cabinets have fewer options for customization because they are mass-produced in factories, however they can be ordered with customized features like soft-close doors, dovetail drawers, and adjustable shelves, with optional upgrades like roll-out trays and spice pull-outs.
The Differences
The main difference between assembled cabinets and RTA cabinets is that one is completely put together, while the other is not. Manufacturers pre-build assembled cabinetry, meaning it is ready to install once the consumer receives it. RTA cabinetry is not pre-built; consumers will have to put all the pieces together on their own or with the help of a hired professional. Assembled cabinetry also tends to use higher quality materials and has more options for customization. However, RTA cabinets often have much quicker shipping times and are more readily available. Both types of cabinetry are great options—you will just have to determine which works best for you.
